A warm welcome and truly Barbadian experience await you at the Mount Gay Visitors Centre, home of Mount Gay Rum. Rum was originally invented in Barbados, and Mount Gay has been producing rum for over three hundred years.

The friendly and knowledgeable guides at The Mount Gay Visitor Centre will share with you the story of the world's oldest and finest rum. During your visit, you will discover the historic personalities, the expertise and the tradition behind Mount Gay Rum, the quintessential Barbadian spirit. Mount Gay's historic distillery is conveniently located five minutes away from Bridgetown in a picturesque setting across from the sea.

Upon arrival at the centre, visitors are welcomed at a very attractive chattel house reception area. The tour begins as guests are escorted into an air-conditioned theatre, cleverly designed to resemble a traditional Barbadian rum shop. There, you discover the colourful history of Mount Gay Rum with a spectacular audiovisual show. This twelve minute presentation is followed by an informative explanation and tour which covers all the different processes and stages of making rum, including refining, aging, blending and bottling. Production at Mount Gay is particularly interesting, because Mount Gay Distilleries has adhered to many of the old, traditional methods of making rum.

The tour lasts between thirty and forty minutes, depending on the curiosity of visitors, and concludes at the coral-stone centre situated in a beautiful garden setting. There, one of the friendly barmen will invite you to indulge in a "tasting", sharing tips on how to fully appreciate the superior quality of the rum. On completing the tour, many guest choose to linger for cocktails and tasty Bajan cuisine on the airy verandah restaurant.

Since its opening, the tour has been a consistent hit with visitors to Barbados, many of whom have described it as "Excellent! The best tour on the island." You won't want to miss this peek into the Barbadian past and the chance to savour what is arguably the best rum in the world. Tours are offered every half-hour, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
